Import and Export Restaurant Menus

Import and export restaurant menus in WordPress with JelloPoint Pro. Work with JSON and CSV menu data, preview changes with Dry Run and review the import report before updating content.

Export a file

Open JelloPoint → Import/Export.
Under Export, choose JSON for the plugin’s backup format or CSV for spreadsheet work.
Choose Export and keep the downloaded file.

A menu-data export does not replace a full WordPress site backup. Keep a site backup before a substantial import.

Prepare the incoming data

Start from a JelloPoint export so the file matches the expected structure. Keep CSV headers unchanged and preserve amount formatting when editing in a spreadsheet. Renaming a file extension does not convert its contents.

Use a small sample first when preparing a new import workflow. Keep the original export separately from your edited copy.

Choose the import options

Select the JSON or CSV file under Import. Review each option:

Create missing Menus/Sections: allows missing menu and section terms to be created.
Re-attach images (if present): requests image attachment handling from the supplied data.
Ignore incoming IDs (always create new items): creates new item records rather than using incoming IDs.

The Ignore incoming IDs option is checked by default. Leaving it checked when importing the same items again can create duplicates. Clear it only when incoming IDs are intended to identify records on this site, and validate the proposed result.

Validate before committing

Choose Validate (Dry Run).
Read the Import Report, including created, updated, unchanged, skipped and error information.
Correct the file or options when the proposed changes are unexpected.
Validate again until the report matches your intent.
Select the same file and intended options, then choose Import (Commit Changes).

A dry run simulates changes; it does not apply them. Inspect the final report after committing rather than assuming every row succeeded.

Verify the imported menu

Open Menu Items and check representative names, descriptions, prices and publication status. In Menu Builder, verify section assignments and order. Then check the website widget’s selected Menu and public result.

Do not immediately repeat an import after an unexpected result. Read the report and confirm which items were created or changed first.

Demo content and defaults

The separate Import Demo Menu area creates the bundled example menu. Use Preview Demo Import first. Its repeated-import protection is specific to the demo workflow, not a promise that ordinary file imports avoid duplicates.

Remove Demo Content targets content marked by the demo importer and moves demo items to Trash. Install Default Badges & Labels adds missing defaults while preserving existing names, settings and selected icons.
